Well it’s been 6 hectic months since we opened the two web sites.
Westwood and Snapper are all great brands with a large following.
The tractors are so well made that a lot of the repairs can be done by a person with a reasonable engineering knowledge. The web sites are being updated all the time, on the Westwood site it now includes service bulletins, wiring diagrams, gearbox breakdowns and a link to Briggs and Stratton. From here you can quickly find parts drawings and manuals relating to your tractors engine.
Winter is on its way, just a few tips before putting your tractor in the shed.
1, clean all the mud and old grass off it, if you use a pressure washer use it sparingly. It will blow grease out of the bearing housings and with the ingress of water this can cause its own problems. Better use a hose and an old paint brush to clean it.
2, Pay particular attention to the underside of the deck, this is where rust is very quick to appear. If the deck can be easily removed, do so and clean the metal surfaces back to bear metal. Repair any holes, wire brush and give the deck two coats of a good quality paint ie Hammerite.
3, the engine should be run up with petrol that has been treated with a fuel stabilizer. This protects the carburettor and valves from corrosion. Shut down the engine and whilst the engine is warm carefully drain the oil from the sump. Replace the oil with good quality oil that is recommended by the engine manufacturer.
Don’t forget we are here to help you maintain your tractor. If you need any advice or assistance please email us.
Best wishes the Tractor Spares Team.

Briggs & Stratton Spares
Well the site is now very nearly complete. We have included a page on Briggs & Stratton engine spares. You need the model number, Type number and Code number off the engine. This is found on the older engines stamped above the spark plug on the air casing or down the side but always on the casing. You may need a wire brush to uncover the number but it is always there. On the newer engines it is on a plate rivited to the casing, usually on the top by the flywheel. The first two digits of the code number are the year of manafacture of the engine. This can be used to identify the year of the tractor as long as of course it is the original engine. Any way back to the engine spares page.
Click on the Briggs link on our Briggs Engine page. Enter your model number and type number in the spaces provided and click go.
This will give you access to owners manuals, parts lists amd parts diagrams of your engine. Select the spares you require and email the list to us at wstspares@taylortoolhire.co.uk . We are main distributors for Briggs engines and so can supply parts for any Briggs & Stratton engine.
